Choosing the Right Career (Day 1)
There is a lot of effort that goes into preparing for a career. You spend time, money, and energy to go to college, get good at your craft, and get started with your work. Choosing the wrong career is not irreversible, but fixing it is not easy either. You need to completely change your approach and learn new skills to reposition yourself in the market. That's why you must be careful when choosing your career.
Knowing your strengths and weaknesses (Day 3)
When choosing a skill to learn, consider your characteristics. For instance, if you are naturally bad at business and feel socially awkward, pursuing a career as a sales representative might not be the best fit for you. Conversely, if you are good at working with children, becoming a teacher might be the way to go.
The First Years of Your Career (Day 6)
Spend the first decade of your work life learning as much as possible about your field of interest. Talk to people, listen to positive and negative comments about the work, read books, and practice your craft as much as possible. See whether there are enough growth opportunities for you and whether your peers are supportive or try to undermine you. Some fields can be very competitive, and you might want to consider avoiding those (or not), depending on your personality and preferences.
Putting Yourself Out There (Day 7)
Imagine this – you decide to start a podcast and reach out to a local business owner, inviting them to be a guest on your show. The interview goes exceptionally well: you are thrilled, and so are they. You follow each other on social media and stay in touch over the years. Sometime in the future, the owner decides they need to hire a marketing expert, and they remember you. They reach out and offer you a job. How amazing is that!
